Background of Bochaganj upazila

Bochaganj upazila was transformed into a standard upgraded police station in 1983. It was upgraded to an upazila in 1984. However, it is better known as Setabganj outside the upazila. The upazila consists of 06 unions and 01 1st class municipality. Setabganj municipality was named after zamindar Sitab Chan Nahar. Setabganj Municipal Hat is one of the largest hats in Rangpur Division. At the time of the establishment of this hat, crocodile game was shown. The crocodile is locally called Bocha. The area was named Bochaganj after this bocha.
